Additional information

Vaclav is a Postdoc in the Seismology and Wave Physics group at ETH Zurich. He is an applied mathematician and computational scientist. He obtained his PhD in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from VSB–Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic. From 2011 to 2017, he worked at the scientific part of the IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center in Ostrava. He focused mainly on developing and implementing highly scalable Quadratic Programming (QP) algorithms and non-overlapping Domain Decomposition Methods (DDM). During his doctorate, he co-founded the open-source software PERMON based on and extending PETSc framework for scientific computing. He has substantial experience with PETSc in general. He is a co-author and speaker of the PRACE PETSc video tutorials, and has lead several PETSc tutorials. He was awarded two national prizes in computational sciences: first prize in Joseph Fourier Prize 2014 and 3-4th prize in Babuška Prize 2016.

Now in the Seismology and Wave Physics group, he works on various improvements of external pageSalvus, a novel high-performance package for full-waveform modeling and inversion. In particular, he will push its parallel scalability.
